Three years ago I saw a need, a need to help our Veterans assimilate back into civilian life after experiencing the horrors of war. Unfortunately, assimilation back into civilian life poses significant challenges for many. While serving in combat, Veterans have also acquired a skill set that is no longer necessary, and often times believed to be inappropriate for civilian life. These men and women want only to win their lives back. While they will never be the person they were before going to war, they can achieve peace and success. That's where we come in. At Labs for Liberty it is our passion to serve our Veterans. Over the course of the last 22 months we have paired over 35 service dogs with Veterans in 16 states while remaining a 100% volunteer organization. These Veterans now find themselves able to engage socially, function in public, attend school, and perform professionally because of the new found confidence gained through the relationship with their service dog. None of this would be possible without the Labs for Liberty Family comprised of: volunteers, fosters, trainers, administrative staff and donors, and of course our Veterans.

Unfortunately, in spite of these accomplishments, our work is not done. Veterans continue to take their own lives at an astonishing rate; many continue to struggle with family dysfunction, broken marriages, social isolation and addiction. This is simply unacceptable.

With our help, Veterans and their families can achieve a new healthy normal. Lives can be saved, relationships mended, and families made whole again.
